Transcript: Nathan Cunningham Makes the Business Case for Hiring People with Disabilities

PEAT asked Nathan Cunningham, Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy: If you were riding in an elevator with a Fortune 500 CEO, what’s your pitch for why hiring people with disabilities is important to their company?

>>So people with disabilities are definitely an integral part of a diverse workforce. If you think about appealing to the broadest segment of your customer base, those customers are going to include people with disabilities that are part of our population and integral part of our communities. And so as an employer in a company you’d want to include people with disabilities, bring them into your workforce, so that the products that you develop and are working on are more accessible to the customers. It also, it’s kind of an important part of just creating a culture of diversity inclusion for other employees in your company so that the products you create are good for the market segment.
