Transcript: Jennifer Sheehy Makes the Business Case for Hiring People with Disabilities
PEAT asked Jennifer Sheehy of the Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy: If you were riding in an elevator with a Fortune 500 CEO, what’s your pitch for why hiring people with disabilities is important to their company?
There’s no better person, individual, or group of people than people with disabilities to bring into your company, to take on a new perspective on an old problem and come up with new solutions. One, they have to learn how to manage a disability every day and do things differently and successfully because the environment is not accessible, it’s not built for people with any disability. And number two, people with disabilities haven’t been included, so bringing that fresh perspective into your organization is always a good thing.
